Aichi-Nagoya: Gulveer Singh won silver in the men’s 10,000m at the 2026 Asian Games on Friday, securing his second consecutive silver medal in the event at the continental Games.
The Indian national record holder returned to the podium in Aichi-Nagoya, adding another major international medal to his growing collection after a season in which he has established himself as one of India’s most accomplished distance runners.
Gulveer had also finished second in the 10,000m at the previous Asian Games, making this his second consecutive silver medal in the event.
Gulveer Continues Remarkable Season After Commonwealth Games Success
The Asian Games silver follows a historic Commonwealth Games campaign earlier this year, where Gulveer won silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m.
With those two medals, he became the first Indian track and field athlete to win two medals at a single edition of the Commonwealth Games.
Despite that achievement, the 27-year-old had made it clear that winning medals other than gold was no longer enough to satisfy him.
“Not happy. I want to hear the national anthem for my country,” Gulveer had said after winning his second Commonwealth Games medal.
His latest Asian Games silver adds to an impressive international record, although the gold medal he has been pursuing remains elusive.
National Records in Both 5,000m and 10,000m
Gulveer arrived in Japan holding the Indian national records in both the 5,000m and 10,000m.
His performances this season include 27:24.18 in the 10,000m and 13:03.93 in the 5,000m, reflecting his progress across both distances.
His Commonwealth Games performances also demonstrated his ability to compete for medals in races requiring different tactical approaches.
In the 5,000m, Gulveer produced a remarkable sprint over the final 50 metres to claim bronze in 13:24.95, having already secured silver in the longer event.
The Asian Games presented another opportunity to turn that form into a continental title.
Second Consecutive Asian Games Podium in 10,000m
The 10,000m has been a particularly productive event for Gulveer on the international stage.
His latest silver means he has now finished on the podium in consecutive editions of the Asian Games, underlining his consistency against the continent’s leading distance runners.
Although he has once again secured a medal, the gold medal he has repeatedly identified as his primary ambition remains out of reach.

Gulveer’s campaign in Aichi-Nagoya is not over. The Indian is also entered in the 1,500m and 5,000m, giving him further opportunities to add to his medal tally and pursue the gold medal he has been targeting.
