Background
Damneet Singh was born on March 10, 2000, and came into athletics through throwing events before specialising in the hammer throw. He emerged through India’s junior athletics system and won silver at the 2017 World U18 Championships and the 2018 Asian U20 Championships. Damneet has been a national champion and has represented India at major international competitions. His senior personal best is 70.64m, recorded at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala in March 2026.
Breakthrough and records
His breakthrough came at the 2017 World U18 Championships in Nairobi, where he threw 71.00m in the hammer throw — winning silver and becoming one of India’s leading junior throwers. He has since established himself at senior level and recorded a personal best of 70.64m in 2026. He also finished second at the Indian Athletics Final Series in New Delhi in September 2026 with 68.12m.
Current season
The 2026 season opened with a 70.64m victory at the Indian Open Throws Competition in Patiala, establishing his season best in the hammer throw. He later won the National Inter-State title with 69.72m and threw 68.12m at the Indian Athletics Final Series in New Delhi. The Commonwealth-level contender remains among India’s leading hammer throwers. He is now preparing for the men’s hammer throw at the Asian Games in September.
