Delhi athlete Sonam continued her strong comeback season by clinching the women’s 10,000m title at the Indian Series-5 in Sangrur, Punjab, clocking 35:54.70 to secure the gold medal.
The victory marks another encouraging performance for the 2024 U23 champion, who endured a difficult previous season and competed in only one event throughout the year. After a long period away from regular competition, Sonam has shown impressive improvement this season and appears to be steadily regaining momentum.
Earlier this year, she opened her campaign on a positive note by registering a new personal best in the women’s 10,000m at Indian Series-3 held at the JLN Stadium. Her latest win in Sangrur further highlights her return to form and growing consistency in distance running.
India’s women’s 10,000m national record continues to stand with Kavita Raut Sreedharan, who clocked 31:50.47 back in 2010 — a mark that remains one of Indian athletics’ longest-standing national records.
With confidence building race by race, Sonam’s performances this season will certainly be closely followed in the domestic circuit.
