India’s rising javelin thrower Sachin Yadav is all set to make his debut at the prestigious Diamond League, competing at the Doha leg on May 8.
Doha is often called a “throwing paradise” for javelin athletes. It has seen some huge performances in recent years. In 2025, Neeraj Chopra crossed the 90m mark there, while Germany’s Julian Weber also recorded his first 90m-plus throw (91.06m) at the same venue.
For Sachin, this is a big step in his career.
Until 2024, Sachin Yadav was still finding his place in Indian athletics. His best throw was 82.69m, and he had not yet made a strong mark internationally.
But 2025 completely changed his career.
He started the season by winning gold at the National Games in Uttarakhand with a new personal best of 84.39m. During this event, he also broke a 10-year-old meet record of 82.23m held by Rajinder Singh.
Soon after, Sachin competed in his first international event, the Asian Championships in Gumi and impressed everyone by winning a silver medal with another personal best of 85.16m.
His biggest performance came at the World Championships in Tokyo, where he finished fourth with a massive throw of 86.27m. He missed the bronze medal by just 40 centimetres, showing how close he is to the world’s top athletes.
Sachin has now become one of India’s top javelin throwers. Only Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena have thrown farther than him.
The 2026 season will be very important for Sachin. With major events like the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and multiple Diamond League meets coming up, he has a big opportunity to prove himself on the global stage.
He will begin his season at the Indian Athletics Series-3 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium before heading to Doha.
The Doha Diamond League is still scheduled for May 8, although organisers are keeping backup plans ready due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
