Amiya Kumar Mallick is an Indian sprinter from Odisha who became one of the defining names in Indian men's 100m sprinting during the 2010s. His biggest landmark came on 28 April 2016, when he ran 10.26 seconds in the National Federation Cup semifinals in New Delhi to set a new Indian 100m national record.
Mallick's defining career moment came at the 2016 National Federation Cup in New Delhi. He first clocked 10.35 seconds in the heats before producing 10.26 seconds in the semifinal, with a legal +1.2m/s following wind. That performance moved him past the previous 10.30-second Indian record. The achievement was particularly significant because Indian men's sprinting had spent years trying to break through the 10.30 barrier. Mallick became the first Indian to lower the national record to 10.26.
Mallick's 10.26 remained the Indian men's 100m national record for more than seven years. It was eventually broken by Manikanta Hoblidhar, who ran 10.23 seconds in 2023. Official Athletics Federation of India results subsequently listed Hoblidhar's 10.23 as the national record while continuing to identify Mallick's 10.26 as the meet record. Mallick's former record was later followed by further improvements from India's emerging sprint generation. The national record has since moved beyond the 10.20 barrier.
The 2017 Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar were an important home competition for Mallick. He reached the 200m final and set his personal best of 21.03 seconds. His campaign in the 100m ended in the semifinals after a false start. India's 4x100m relay team was also disqualified in the heats following a baton-exchange infringement. The championships nevertheless remain an important part of Mallick's international career and his record-setting period.
Mallick has also represented India in the 4x100m relay. World Athletics lists a 39.24-second 4x100m relay performance in Chandigarh on 11 September 2023. Relay running has remained an important part of India's sprint programme, and Mallick's experience has placed him alongside several generations of Indian 100m runners.
At 33, Mallick remains active in Indian athletics. His 2026 competition record shows that he continues to compete in the 100m, including a 10.58-second victory in New Delhi in May 2026. His 10.26-second lifetime best remains his defining performance, while his 21.03-second 200m best continues to stand as his personal benchmark over the longer sprint.
