The 800m finals at the Asian Games 2026 delivered intense racing and strong competition across both the men’s and women’s events. India’s representatives fought hard against some of Asia’s top middle-distance runners.
Men’s 800m Final: Mohammed Afsal Finishes Eighth
Mohammed Afsal finished eighth in the men’s 800m final with a time of 1:48.27.
Ko Ochiai won gold in a Games Record of 1:44.48. Ali Amirian took silver in 1:45.10, while Abubaker Abdalla secured bronze in 1:45.25.
Afsal finished more than three seconds behind the gold-medal time, highlighting the gap between his performance and the pace set by the medalists.
Women’s 800m Final: Pooja Finishes Seventh
Pooja finished seventh in the women’s 800m final with a time of 2:06.72.
She had qualified for the final after clocking 2:03.20 in a fast heat the previous day. In the final, she faced a tactical race against some of Asia’s leading middle-distance runners.
Wu Hongjiao won gold in 2:04.49. Nelly Korir took silver in 2:05.16, while Victoria Bossong claimed bronze in 2:05.34.
